Simplicity's Hidden Secret; Silence

We are living in a new world. It's full of noisy distractions and it's becoming more and more difficult to escape from them. Actually, many of us thrive on this type of lifestyle. It has become the constant hum of our existence. But we need to pause. We need...

Silence.

Why do we need silence and how does it support our goal of simplification? Nick Seaver in his TED Talk "The Gift of Silence" said "we've built a culture on distraction", and that we really don't make time to focus on our hearts and our minds.

Simply sitting in silence for 10 minutes a day can help you clear out the distractions and help your mind focus on what really matters. It will feel odd at first and your mind will want to jump from thought to thought. However, sitting in silence can be incredibly powerful.

...Scientists found that two hours of silence per day prompted greater healthy brain cell growth in the hippocampus – an area of the brain responsible for memory formation, learning, motivation and regulation of emotional responses. (source)

With all of these benefits, take the time to harness what silence has to offer. Simplicity will follow.
