We've missed the mark. In the years since Philip Kotler invented modern marketing and David Ogilvy invented advertising, we've strayed from the idea that people are what make our businesses run and grow.
While there are thousands of books on the topics of marketing and advertising, the underlying theme is the very thing we tend to trip over in our race toward bigger sales and profits;
People.
My wife runs a small bakery out of our home and every weekend we travel to a farmers market to share them with the community. This time has allowed us to meet some incredible people while making human connections. This is what keeps us and them coming back.
These connections have been some of the most meaningful successes of the business. Being human and making authentic connections with real people.
“Business is nothing without a connection to the human spirit.”
How we treat and relate to our colleagues and clients is the very foundation for how business is run, how it performs, and whether or not it succeeds.
Take the time to make those connections count. It will require emotional effort to inquire and be curious about those we work with on a daily basis. But this work will pay off. Maybe not in financial gain, but in the rich reward of relationships that last.
